    Where to start?

Just wanted some ideas from someone with a little experience of any kind in weight training. I've lost almost 50lbs. following the Atkins WOE and I'm quickly becoming bored with my "at home", push up, sit up and dumb bell exercise routine. What is the easiest way to get motivated and where do I start if I join the local gym[reps, sets, muscle groups etc.]. Now that I am at a weight that I feel more comfortable working out I want to amp it up a bit, take some "before pics" and see where this goes. Any help at all is appreciated.

I would say if you can do it, the best way is to hire a trainer to teach you other alternatives. Barring that, Muscle and Fitness has a great training notebook that gives you several options for each muscle group. They provide great tips, modifications and guidance on proper form. I usually work out upper and lower body twice each week. But each work out I vary the exercises from among the ones in the book so I get a slightly different workout each time. For ladies, I recommend "Lift like a man, look like a goddess" another great lifting book with a woman's point of view.
